32 The Willibaldhalde (FFH area)

The slag heap area of the „Vereinigter Bastenberg und Dörnberg“ mine is a designated FFH area. This also includes the „Willibald“ slag heap. FFH stands for Fauna, Flora, Habitat. The aim of the EU directive „FFH“ is the transnational protection of endangered wild native plant and animal species and their natural habitats.
